I'm an animator, illustrator, and photographer, enrolled at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly Massachusetts. I'm in the process of writing, illustrating, and animating several personal projects as well. I usually create realistic fiction or fantasy work. The themes of my art are often related to exploring the queer experience, and class interaction.
When I make a piece of art, the first goal for me is to tell a story or communicate an idea. I love to create art that is meaningful to people as well as being visually interesting. The second thing on my mind is usually try to learn through my art; I want to be always improving artistically if I can. The third big goal with my art is having fun creating it. I can derive a lot of enjoyment from designing and creating art, and so I try to have as much fun as I can with the process. I don't think art should be a chore to get through, I think when it is, it generally turns out worse in the end.
My main artistic passion is animation, I think it's basically entirely unique in the way it combines other forms of art, and I think the things you can do with it are just amazing. I love the feeling of completing an animation and watching the drawings I made be transformed into motion. That feeling is one of the main reasons I focus on animation so much, it just feels magical in a beautiful way. However, I still love many other art forms, photography and illustration being the runners up.
I love photography for its ability to capture a moment in a person's life. It allows a connection between the viewer and the subject in a way that other mediums struggle with. Being able to see a candid moment in a person's life creates empathy, which I love.
I love drawing primarily because of how creative I can be when doing it. While animation takes many hours to complete, I can create an illustration in a couple hours. With illustration I can put an idea into the world with an immediacy that I can't with animation. This is helpful if I want to use art to communicate how I'm feeling, or a momentary idea, as it won't take multiple days of work to do.
Every form of art I do has different strengths, and I think it's great that I'm able to work in so many mediums to express myself and the way I see the world.
